A Brief Re-cap:

We left at 6 a.m. Friday, hit the two places in Austin (Capitol and Texas Military Forces Museum/Air National Guard headquarters), spent the night in Houston Friday night.

Friday’s tour of State Capitol which included time with one of Representative Goldman’s key staffers, Amanda, who got us into the Senate and House Chambers for some great photos.

After the State Capitol we spent time in the Texas Military Forces (Texas Army and Air National Guard from WWI to the present as well as Texas Independence, Civil War and where Teddy Roosevelt trained his Rough Riders for the Battle of San Juan Hill) Museum on Camp Mabry.  This included a short trip to the Air National Guard Headquarters with a short but insightful briefing from the Director of the ANG HQ Staff (my successor after I retired), Colonel Marcos Santillan.

Saturday we hit the San Jacinto Battlefield park and Battleship Texas, followed by lunch and Space Center Houston.  Highlight photos of our Cadets learning about a 104 year old Battleship which saw action in two World Wars.  Cadets also reviewed Texas Independence history and enjoyed a ride to the top of the San Jacinto Monument.

We got home Saturday night at 11:10 p.m. and all Cadets were picked up by 11:30 p.m.   It was a long two days but so worth it...and extremely rewarding for what the USAF terms a “Curriculum-In-Action” or rather, “CIA” trip!
