Dare to Dream Aviation Career Day
May 14, 2022
Nineteen of our students (JROTC Cadets) got to go on Saturday, up at Alliance, culminating in every one of them…including Jesus Cuevas (our wheel-chair bound Cadet)…getting a helicopter ride. Roy Castellanos took video during his flight and added it to this. They met airline pilots, flight attendants, business and military pilots and even first responder aircrew from the Coast Guard and Life Flight. There were neat vendor displays as well. This was truly a unique STEM and career-oriented adventure for 19 of our very deserving WHHS students. You can even tell the instructors took a dare or two from our students and got in on some of the action! 😊

Last Friday, (10/22/21) 30 of our Cadets accompanied by 10 Leonard JCC Cadets had a chance to go out to Alliance for the pre-show arrival of aircraft and watch several aircraft fly in one of our first large-group field trips since back to almost-normal school. The downer was the Cadets did not actually get to crawl around on aircraft or talk to aircrew due to our new Covid-conscious world. However, if you watch the awesome video MSgt Ayala put together from the trip you can see in the faces of our Cadets their excitement and friendship. If you watch real close you will even see an A-10 Thunderbolt II (also called the Warthog) fly past. I do have some future great photos en-route that our main media “producer,” Xavier Garcia captured while he worked his website program at the airshow.
