The Lady Cougar Volleyball team ran their record to 11/2 with a five set victory against Eastern Hills this past Friday night. We have qualified for the state playoffs with four matches remaining. In order to win matches that go five sets a team has to have certain qualities. They have to play well under pressure, individually they need to have a high degree of mental toughness, and as a team they have to believe in each other. We have won three matches that have gone five sets this season. As coaches we never want to go five sets, but there is nothing more satisfying than winning a fifth set to 15 points. Friday the score in our final set was 15/3. I can’t say enough about their determination and mental toughness on the court.

The Lady Cougar volleyball team improved it’s record to 9/2 with a three set victory over YWLA. Amya Williams, Emma Leaf, and Martell Guzman led the way on offence, and Stephanie Galaviz and America Ramos turned in solid defensive performances. We begin the second round of district play on Tuesday against Dunbar. Please remember that you can livestream the games from the Western Hills Athletics page.

It was a good night for the volleyball program! All three teams won in straight sets. The varsity ran their record 7/0. We won the first two sets easily. In the third set we were down early at 2/9, and rallied to win 27/25. The girls have played through adversity really well this season. It was nice to have parents in the stands again.

The girls are off to a 5/0 start. It hasn’t always been easy but they continue find ways to win. They have shown a lot of improvement from match to match. Stephanie Galaviz has played extremely well on defense and Amya Williams has played equally as well on offense. It’s a real privilege to get to coach these kids. Hopefully we can have spectators before the season is over.

Tonight the girls defeated Dunbar in straight sets. We have won three of three and are really playing well. All of our victories have been straight set wins. I hope that soon you will be able to come and see us in person. I don’t think I have ever coached a team that has played as in sync as this one. It is a real privilege to coach them.
