The Lady Cougars varsity squad fought hard last night, but got their first loss in district play.  After a very rough start and pre-game jitters, the girls found their rhythm, not allowing any goals in the second half of play. Many of the ladies had to play positions out of their comfort zone as we were missing a handful of our girls, most notably our captain and defensive midfielder, Amy Sanchez, due to illness. Her voice and presence on the field were sorely missed! The cougars will take this loss as a learning experience, and move forward with new-found drive and determination.

The JV finally made their district debut, showing no hesitation as they held the Bobcats to 0-0 at half-time. The girls played aggressively and held their shape beautifully, connecting passes across the field and taking several shots on goal. Unfortunately, a combination of penalty kicks and well-placed shots by the Bobcats left the Cougars with a 3 point deficit by the end of the game.

Both teams have a bye this Tuesday, but will play again on Friday at Dunbar HS.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported us and, as always, GO COUGARS!

Yesterday, the Lady Cougars traveled to Carter Riverside for their second district game, and fought hard to pull off a 3-0 victory. In the first half, Jocelyn Nava made a beautiful through ball to Jackie Valandran on the outside who rocketed a one touch shot into the far upper corner of Carter's goal from 30 yards out. A few minutes later, Amy Sanchez gave a quick assist to Jocelyne "Pickle" Ruvalcaba, who then stuffed a second goal into the back of the Eagle's net. In the second half, Carter made some adjustments to their attacking line, but their efforts were all for naught as Candace "The Enforcer" Ndekelengwe stood her ground to block any Carter attempt at a breakaway. To finish off our attack, Joceline Mendoza made a perfect shot at the back of CRHS's goal off a driven square pass from 'Pickle'

Stand-out performances were also given by Amy Sanchez at defensive middle, Gaby Cuevas at attacking middle, and Taylor "The Truck" Torres at outside middle.

Unfortunately, Carter Riverside did not have a JV team to field either, so our JV girls are still waiting to get a district game in.

The girls are now 2-0 in district play. Friday we are home against Benbrook Middle-High. JV at 6:30, Varsity at 8. The girls would love to see you in the stands...your support really makes all the difference. If storms roll in and refuse to leave, we will play on Saturday instead, times TBA.

Thanks for all you do for our girls, and GO COUGARS!

Your Lady Cougar soccer team started district play in the pouring rain this past Friday against Eastern Hills. The turf was slick and visibility was limited, but the girls showed up and showed out.

To start us off, Jocelyne "Pickle" Ruvalcaba sent a bullet of a cross into the box that resulted in a goal, sending us into half-time up 1-0. In the second half, the scoring picked up along with the rain, as Taylor Torres sent another missile into their box, resulting in another Cougar goal. Quick to follow were goals from Brenda Martinez and Karen Silva, and a goal from a tense penalty kick taken by Joceline Mendoza. In the last two minutes, Gaby Cuevas sealed Eastern Hills' fate by stuffing one final goal into the back of the net in the last two minutes of regulation play to end the game with a 6-0 win. It should also be noted that excellent performances were given by Laine "Soup" Hammer in the goal, making incredible saves despite slick conditions, and Candace Ndekelengwe who has become an absolute enforcer on the back line.

Unfortunately Eastern Hills did not have a JV team to field, so our JV girls have yet to make their district debut.

Tomorrow we're at Carter-Riverside, and take on Benbrook at home on Friday, JV at 6:30pm and Varsity at 8pm for both games. The girls would love to see you in the stands...your support really makes all the difference.
