Varsity played a great game Friday night and it ended with a Homecoming week victory! Great job by all of the boys last night. Defense had another great game especially in the second half by holding Northside to only 69 yards and 3 first downs in that half. Defense was led by Rayvon Jones, Jonathan Morgan, Jordan Randle, and an excellent shut down night by LeRondre Alston.
The offense had a great game as well amassing over 370 yards of offense. DeVoe Walker had his second game in a row with over 150 yards passing and Cameron West had two long touchdown receptions. Phillip Allen had a great catch and run to add another score. Jordan Randle and Devoe Walker scored on a short Touchdown runs as well. The offensive line continued to lead the way!!
The kicking duo of Jared Mendoza and Jude Collins continued to be the best in the district.
Next up is Arlington Heights this Thursday night at Farrington Field with a 7 pm kickoff. This will be senior night and black out night!
These young men play their tails off and unfortunately we just can’t seem to get the ball to bounce our way! The Cougars lost another heartbreaker last night to OD Wyatt 15-7.
The game was tied at 7-7 going into the fourth quarter. After a myriad of injuries, we just ran out of bodies but we are so proud of everyone of the guys that stepped up and played. They really embraced the “next man up” mentality last night!
Jordan Randle, Keon Duvall, Jonathan Morgan, Rayvon Jones, Bryce Jones, Josh Reyes, Jacques McQueen, Deterrion Kellough, and a host of others held the Chaps to 72 yards rushing and only 96 yards through the air. The defense continued to play great throughout the game.
On the offense side of the ball Cameron West, Jayvon Simmons, and Devoe Walker led the three headed quarterback attack once again. Deterrion Kellough scored the loan touchdown. Jude Collins added the extra point.
The Cougars will take on the South Hills Scorpions on Friday night at Farrington Field for a 7:30 kickoff. We hope to see you there!
GO COUGARS!!!
Southwest took an early 28-7 lead in the first quarter and although the Cougars showed great resilience, the hole we dug was too deep. A lot of great things happened in the game. We amassed over 350 yards of total offense to Southwest 250 yards. We had 19 first downs to Southwests 9 first downs. We had only 7 penalties to Southwests 14 penalties. Our boys acted professional on the field and did not give in to some of the unsportsmanlike play of the other team. You should be proud of how the Cougars represented WHHS in this game.
Cameron West had a stellar game on offense. He threw two passes both caught for TD's and ran for another 123 yards. His first TD pass was a 67 yard bomb hauled in with a one handed catch by sophomore Devoe Walker. Cam then added another TD pass to LeRondre Alston in which Dre made a terrific play in the endzone for the touchdown. Touchdowns were also scored by Cam west on a 22 yard run and Devoe Walker on a 25 yard run. Jared Mendoza and Jude Collins had a great day kicking. They nailed every extra point and Jude added a 26 yard field goal at the end of the game.
Defensively, Keon Duvall had a great game at outside linebacker and Jordan Randle played well once again at the inside linebacker position. The defensive line played hard as well. Lerondre Alston, Phillip Allen, Kishaun Davis, and Antwon Funchess limited Southwest to just 108 yards passing. The defense held a very explosive offense to just 254 total yards and gave up only three touchdowns. The rest of Southwests points came against special teams and turnovers.
If you have not made it out to a game, please try to do so. Our record of 1-4 is not indicative of how well the team is playing. We are playing some great football! Please let the boys know that you support them and that they need to stay the course and good things will happen for us!
For the second week in a row, the game came down to the final minutes. With less than a minute left in the game, a YMLA player made a fantastic play in their own end zone sealing the victory. We took a 20-16 loss! We are playing exciting football with a lot of effort! This team looks completely different from our home opener against Granbury. We keep getting better each week!
Cameron West, Jayvon Simmons, and Devoe Walker led an offensive attack that gained over 220 yards. On the first series of the game, freshman Jude Collins kicked a 24 yard field goal for the first points of the game. Later sophomore Devoe Walker hit junior Lazarus Wilson with a 44 yard touchdown pass. We took a 10-6 lead into halftime. In the third quarter, senior Cameron West scored on an exciting 27 yard touchdown run.
Defensively, juniors Rayvon Jones, Jonathan Morgan, Lynden Dukes, Josh Reyes, and Deterrion Kellough had a great game. Seniors Jordan Randle, Eric Hall, and Keon Duvall led the rest of the front 7.
Antwan Funches, Keon Jones, LeRondre Alston, and Phillip Allen all had a great game in the secondary.
As always....GO COUGARS!!!
What a hard fought game by both teams!
The Cougars lost a heart breaker 17-16 on Friday night to Dallas Molina. Offensively Eric Hall and Jayvon Simmons helped lead the offense to over 250 total yards. On defense, Rayvon Jones scooped up a fumble and rumbled 65 yards for a touchdown. Jordan Randle put on a clinic at inside linebacker leading the team in tackles! The score flip flopped several times and a late 4th quarter field goal gave Molina the victory. We are very proud of the Cougars for a hard fought 48 minutes of football.
The Cougars have a bye this week!
