Check out today’s Benbrook paper! Caleb Clark is front page news!! Congrats Caleb!
The mighty cougars closed out their 2020 season with a dominating 40-0 victory over the South Hills Scorpions. The cougars were in control of the game from start to finish.
Deshaun Davis connected with Skylar Powell for two of the scoring drives. Eric Griffin, D'Anton Davis, and Holdin Hernandez each contributed with a rushing touchdown a piece. The defense recorded their first shut out of the year with Camren Brown's 2 interceptions and Iasiah Hampton adding to the scoring with a pick 6. The Junior Varsity team finished the season 3-5 overall and 2-2 in district play. Thank you for support throughout the season.
For the first time in ten years, the Cougar Football team is headed to the playoffs!
For those of you that have been around WHHS for the years that my staff has been at Western Hills, you know it’s been a long haul! We appreciate all the support and help for our boys over the years!
Last night, the boys earned their trip into the playoffs with a 27-0 win over Eastern Hills. The defense played lights out and earned the shut out. Caleb Clark once again led the team in tackles. Tahj Wade had a great game on the defensive line and Tony Pascall and Deion Williams secured the corner spot and completely shut down the passing game. Our defensive coaching staff did a great job!
On the offensive side, we started a bit slow, but finally got things going when QB Keyon Butler connected on a 48 yard touchdown pass to Tre Brewster. Jason Green added two other touchdowns and Keyon also scored on a 1 yard QB sneak. The offensive coaches did a great job of fighting through the slow start and keeping the boys going.
Jude Collins continued to impress. He knocked in three extra points and more importantly had two huge touchbacks. We are so happy that his dad has had the chance to coach him on the gridiron his senior season and has done a great job of giving us an extra edge with a fantastic kicking game.
Up next? Next Friday, we play at Kennedale. We then have Dunbar and Carter Riverside to finish out the regular season. We do not have those dates, times, or location as of yet.
The mighty Cougars defeated the Carter Riverside Eagles 20 to 14 in a hard fought victory here at home yesterday. Carter Riverside scored first taking a 6 to 0 lead which did not last long because Skylar Powell took the following kick off return to the house. After a failed two point conversion the score remained tied.
Carter Riverside took the lead again - 14 to 6. Once again the Cougars answered putting together a nice drive cutting the lead to 14 to 12 when Deshaun Davis connected with Skylar Powell for a 20 yard touchdown pass. The Cougar defense stepped up with some outstanding play causing a safety bringing the score to a 14 to 14 tie going into halftime.
Throughout the second half the Cougar defense continued to get key stops with outstanding play by Gavyn Harris, D'Mareay Hornsby, Eric Griffin, CamRen Brown, Daniel Yescas, and Luciano Martinez. With under 4 minutes left in the game Deshaun Davis connected with Camden Hawkins for a 35 yard touchdown pass giving the Cougars a 20 to 14 lead. The Carter Riverside Eagles moved the ball to our 40 yard line but once again the Cougar defense tighten up and gave the ball back to our offense with a minute left in the game.
This was a great team win for these young men bringing our record to 2 - 3 overall.
