2018 Season
10/12/18
Your boys literally fought to the last second on this one. There was no reason for any of them to hang their heads!
Losing Jayvon Simmons, our starting QB, last week was a huge blow to our offense, but Isaiah Jones stepped up and managed the offense pretty well. He and Jessie Villarreal will be fighting for that starting QB job this week in practice! The offensive line continued to work hard and lead the offense to 28 points. Junior Jonathan Banks and senior Laz Wilson led the offense with great runs and catches.
Defensively, senior Justin Santos had probably his best game making plays all over the field. The defensive line led by seniors Jonathan Morgan, Rayvon Jones, and Josh Reyes did a great job of stopping the run.
This was definitely a heart breaking loss! The boys played hard and well enough to win, we just didn’t! Please congratulate them on their hard work and encourage them to keep fighting.
We FINALLY head into our bye week this week. Our next game will be homecoming against Lake Worth High School. Kickoff is 7:30 at Farrington Field on October 26.

Well....not the outcome we hoped or thought would come out of the game. If you only made the first half of the game, you saw one heck of a half. The game was tied 0-0 at the end of the first quarter and 12-7 at half. Erick Taylor scooped up an onside kick and returned it for a TD for the only points for the Cougars. The defense caused and got 5 turnovers, but unfortunately the offense was not able to get points on the board. The second half was a different story! The bobcats came out of the half and scored 30 points in the third quarter and another 14 in the 4th.
Adversity was not our friend....We will continue to work with these young men on the traits and characteristics that will help turn them into productive adult men that are able to deal with setbacks and fight through them.
The Cougars face Kennedale on Friday at Handley field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
9/20/18
The Cougars traveled to East Texas to take on the Quinlan Ford Panthers. Unfortunately, in a hard fought game the Cougars came out a little short with a 24-19 loss. The entire team played hard! The Offense was led by Jonathan Banks (overall MVP, Offensive MVP) who finished with 136 yards of rushing. Jayvon Simmons had another great game with 57 yards passing and 68 yards rushing. Defensively, Justin Santos kept a cool head throughout the adversity and finished with 2 solo tackles and 5 Assisted tackles earning him Defensive player of the game. Jude Collins had a huge touchback kickoff in the 3rd quarter that led him to earn Special teams player of the game.
9/13/18
The varsity Cougars completed the sweep of the RL turner Lions last Thursday night with 23-7 win. The game was tied 0-0 at half before the Cougars figured out to make up for the loss of some key players and starting putting points on the board. Josh Reyes (Overall player of the game) finished the game at center and made several tackles on defense. Jayvon Simmons (Offensive player of the game) picked up several important first downs with his feet and finished with 113 yards rushing. Jonathan banks continued to roll with another 100 yard performance and two TD's to add to his season total. The Offensive line was once again outstanding leading to two 100 yards rushers. Defensively, Jonathan Morgan (defensive player of the game) led the defense with 7 tackles for a loss including 4 sacks. Jonathan also had a huge tipped ball that landed in the hands of Maliek Moore who rumbled in for a pick 6 touchdown. kicker Jared Mendoza (Special teams player of the game) added to the point total with a 39 yard field goal in the 3rd quarter that pushed the Cougars to a 10-7 lead.
The Cougars make the long Voyage to Quinlan, Texas on Friday, September 21 to face the Ford Panthers. kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.
9/7/18
The Western Hills Cougars took on the Carter Riverside Eagles at Clark Stadium and came out victorious in a 42-3 victory. The Cougar defense held the Eagles to just 81 total yards for the game. This set a new school record eclipsing the old mark of 86 yards by the 1998 Western Hills Cougars vs Poly. The defense was led by Jonathan Morgan (defensive player of the game). In addition, the secondary did a great job including an interception from Antwon Funches.
On the offensive side of the ball, junior Jonathan Banks rushed for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns. In addition, senior Jayvon Simmons rushed for 113 yards and 3 TD's. The final TD was scored by junior Isaiah Jones on a 11 yard scamper. All of this rushing would not be possible without the work of the offensive line. Senior Nate caballero (Offensive player of the game) led the way with 5 more pancake blocks. Senior Lynden Dukes, Junior Isaac Moreno, and sophomores La'Kyveion Timms-Raven and Aaron Boydston round out the rest of the O-line which has produced multiple 100 yard rushers the last two weeks.
The special teams continued to rack up fumble recoveries on kickoffs. Junior Kadari Issa (Special teams player of the game) had two big hits that led to fumble recoveries. Kickers Jude Collins and Jared Mendoza each accounted for three extra points and both did a great job on kickoffs.
The entire squad played a very good game! The Cougars kickoff again this Thursday night at standridge Stadium in Carrollton against the RL Turner Lions. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm. We hope to see you there!
