Last night, the Girls basketball team wrapped up their 2020-2021 season with a victory over Young Womens Leadership with a score of 41-15.

Just like everything else in education this year, this season was interesting, challenging, and yet rewarding.   We saw a lot of growth and improvement from the start of the season to the end.  We started the season with just 10 girls and ended with only 8.  These 8 young ladies played hard every single game and represented WHHS very well.

Coach Owens and I are proud of the efforts that the young ladies put into the season.   Last night, we celebrated 5 seniors. Players Amaria Cooper, Alecia Spells, and Spirit Hart-Stevenson; Student athletic trainer Uulani Tankxley, and filmer Aaliyah Ruiz. We appreciate the time and effort that these seniors have put into WHHS, other activities, and especially basketball over their high school careers.

In addition, the season came to an end for juniors and sophomores: Diana Cousar, Sydney Brown, Rnya Carr , Reyn Hart,  Amyah Jones, Laylah Spells, and Janyiah Mathews.

On the season,  we finished in 5th place, just out of the playoffs. Amaria Cooper and Alecia Spells led the team in points throughout the season and earned first team all-district honors.

The Lady Cougars beat Northside on Tuesday night (December 1st) in an exciting game that was won in the final quarter.  The girls fought hard to get the win and have improved quite a bit over the last few weeks.   The Lady Cougars were led by Amari Cooper who scored 25 points. Alecia Spells added nine points, and Diana Cousar added a huge three point shot in the fourth to pad our lead.   Coach Owens and I are excited about the growth and improvement on the court.
