Last night, the boys' basketball teams wrapped up their seasons at home vs. YMLA.  The freshman and JV teams started the night off with two great wins.  Freshman Jamarion Armstead hit a big 3-pointer late to seal the deal in the freshman victory.  The JV squad played very well and had big contributions from Kyu Wilson, Michael Richmond, Jaylen James, and Robert Jones.

The varsity team played with tremendous effort but came up short in overtime by a final score of 39-37.  Before the game, we honored our senior players and managers for their hard work and commitment to our program.  Their positive impact on our program culture was incredible and they will be greatly missed.

Last Friday, the boys basketball team travelled to Diamond Hill Jarvis for a 9-4A district contest.  The Cougars played well and came away with a 66-27 victory on the road.  Senior Keyon Butler led both teams in scoring with 17 points while adding 5 rebounds and 4 assists.  Junior Xavier McIntyre added 13 points and 5 rebounds.  Junior Stephun Williams tossed in 11 points and grabbed 4 rebounds.

The Cougars host YMLA tomorrow night in our final regular season game.  Freshman tip-off at 5:00 pm, followed by JV at 6:15 pm and Varsity at 7:30 pm.  We will honor our senior managers and players before the start of the varsity game.  We hope to see you there.

Last night, the boys' basketball team travelled to Carter Riverside for a 9-4A district contest.  The JV squad got off to a fast start and never looked back in the 68-27 victory.  Kyu Wilson led the Cougars in scoring.  Trenell Patterson, Robert Jones, Jeremiah Stribling, Corey Williams, and Michael Richmond had several assists and steals in the big win.  Please congratulate these young men on a job well done!

The varsity team came up short in the final seconds by a score of 49-46.  Keyon Butler led the Cougars with his double-double effort of 24 points and 16 rebounds. We look to bounce back on Saturday in a pivotal district game against Benbrook.  Tip-off is set for 3:00 pm following our girls' team at 1:30 pm.  Varsity Boys & Girls games are at Billingsley Fieldhouse.

We will have Teacher Appreciation Night next Tuesday, January 31st.  We would like to recognize all of our WHHS teachers and staff before the varsity game at 7:30 pm vs. Dunbar.

The boys' basketball teams travelled to YMLA last Friday night to close out the first round of district play on the road.  The sub-varsity teams lost their games, with the JV game coming down to the last possession of the game and losing by a point.  Kyu Wilson, Robert Jones, and Michael Richmond had great performances in the close defeat.

The varsity team played incredible defense throughout the night, including holding YMLA to 3 points in the fourth quarter to come away with a 39-31 victory and spoil the YMLA homecoming.  Junior Xavier McIntyre led the Cougars with 9 points and also added 7 rebounds.  Our boys showed tremendous toughness and composure throughout the contest.

The win puts the Cougars at 3-3 in district play.  Next, we travel to Carter Riverside tomorrow for a pivotal district game. JV plays at 6:00 pm, followed by Varsity at 7:30 pm.

Junior Curtis Davis scored a 100 on his final exam and earned credit for the University of Texas On-Ramps US History course. He is competing on the floor and in the classroom! Excellent job Curtis!
